2016 is the year all hell broke loose. Before 2016, the world was completely standard, regulated and monopolized by issues of money, religion, terrorism. Humans believed themselves to be the one and only species living on Earth. And that is when the true, world-altering conflict began.

In 2016, the Great War started. Nevermind WWI, nevermind WWII, this war will hold the name and retain it, as it destroyed more than any other war ever has before. In 2016, the magical world collided with the human world, revealing itself to unsuspecting humans, when a group of magical creatures decided they did not want to hide anymore. They had been building influence, growing in the underground and the shadows of the known world, for a decade before their coup. Nicknamed the MLF (Magical Liberation Front), their ranks were made up of every species imaginable that inhabited the Earth, doing so unseen and unknown, until 2016.

The war started in February, with a swift, but deadly attack on the White House, the Kremlin, the Ryongsong Hotel, and the EU Parliament, simultaneously. Four places of untold power burnt down to the ground in moments through the attack of four dragons. The videos went viral immediately, the world in absolute shock at seeing mythical creature alive and burning down the world they knew. How?

The MLF would explain, in a broadcast to every media outlet that would listen, to ever social media platform, to the whole world. A man, in his mid-forties, with two horns sprouting high up on his forehead. Otherwise looking absolutely normal. Nick Forbes, leader of the MLF, would speak to the world at large and threaten more destruction and death if the magical world wasn't given authority, as they were obviously the superior species.

Of course, the human race did not give in that easily. And so the Great War started, recruiting everyone, as soon as you could hold a gun. Countless casualties on both sides, countless cities razed to the ground, countless families torn apart. Prosperous countries brought to their knees. Most of Europe became Magic-occupied, and is, to this day, their last remaining bastion.

Because the war couldn't last forever. It didn't even last nearly half as long as any of the other great wars, ending with a reluctant peace treaty in December 2017, before the looming option of throwing a nuclear bomb on all known magical outposts was put to the test. Magical beings, in a much smaller number than humans, found refuge in the Greek Islands, primarily, but also along the Mediterranean, and further out, in New Zealand.

In the US, magic was outlawed. Anyone with magical abilities was sent to jail as prisoners of war, or were packed into planes to lands where magic was legal. The country, ravaged by the war, rallied together to form a new government, a lot less libertarian than it once had been. Cities are closed off, with checkpoints and jails sprouting everywhere. Riots are frequent as the country struggle to rebuild its economy and mainly, its agriculture.

And it is in this atmosphere that Myung lives his life, trying to hide what he really is.
